TODAY ON FRANKLY SPEAKING - THE BEST
AND THE REST
Of
all the nations in the world, why did your maker choose to make you a Nigerian?
What do you think he had in mind when He decided that you should be a Nigerian?
Let's talk on that this morning, I've titled this one The best and the rest.
There
is a Yoruba adage that says a river that forgets its source will consequently
dry up. Dear friend, where are you from? Now I don't mean your native land,
your village or town or part of the country, no, that is your entry point, what
I mean is how often do you think about your source as a human being? As a
complete, complex, reasonable creature, do you ever consider where you're from?
How
much thought do you give to where you come from as a human being? Have you
given time to really study life and uncover evidence and proof of your source
and who created you?
I'm
glad that as a nation, we are believers in God as the creator of all things and
all men. And I believe many of you listening to me this morning believe in God
and acknowledge Him as the source of all things on earth.
You
agree by the things which are seen and the very complex balance of life and the
logical interaction and inter-dependence of all things living and non-living,
the earth did not come to be by accident. It's too precise, too structured, too
organised, too self-regenerating and balanced to be a product of chaos or
sudden explosion. God made the earth, God made all things including you.
Beyond
what you were told by either parents, educationist, media, spiritual leaders or
religious custodians, have you personally researched your source and try to
discover the reason why God created this unique you?
Why
are you not like everyone else? Why are you different in looks, talent,
passion, preference, temperament, character, real desires and journey? Why are
you, you?
Well,
you may find these questions a little awkward this morning but truth be told,
it's in the answers that you will truly find peace, fulfilment, purpose and
relevance in this life.
Ladies
and gentlemen, don't be deceived and deluded, there has never been a season of
absolute and general peace, progress and prosperity for the whole world or any
nation in this world at any given time. The world is a complex variety of good
and bad, sweet and bitter, birth and burial, poverty and riches, laughing and
wailing, celebration and mourning happening to different people, in different
places all at the same time.
As
much as we long for a season of peace, joy, prosperity and greatness in
Nigeria, truth is, it is uniquely and inimitably delivered to individuals. No
matter how rich and prosperous Nigeria becomes eventually, the poor we shall
always have with us. And no matter how difficult and hard things are in
Nigerian today, some people are still experiencing back to back breakthrough,
success and celebration.
Life
is like that. There is collective good and individual good, there is collective
prosperity and individual prosperity.
Let
me tell you this truth, if you think collective prosperity will deliver your
individual prosperity in Nigeria, you are perhaps missing it.
Going
back into history even in the decades when Nigeria was reputed to be very rich
and prosperous, I assure you, many people then were still poor and felt
marginalised. In the fifties, sixties and seventies, riots, killings, revolts,
executions, coups, violence, kidnapping, robbery, political, social, ethnic and
tribal conflicts were frequent and rife, yet Nigeria was so rich and relevant
the naira was more powerful than the dollar.
This
being the reality my friends, don't you think as we pray and pressure public
office holders to deliver on their campaign promises and move Nigeria forward,
it is also important you pay attention to your individual life and prosper as
an individual?
Have
you taken some time to think and research and try to discover who you are, why
you are the way you are and why you are actually here?
The
almighty does not waste resources, everything he created serves a purpose,
hence, you are definitely here for a reason and for a purpose; do you know your
purpose?
Many
of us today are misplaced, misled and misdirected in life because we have been
living a life of copy and imitation, we've patterned our lives after the lives
of other people we admire and wish to be like, not according to our purpose,
our design and place in this life.
Where
exactly is your place in this world, where is your duty post in this life, why
did God create you and where would he want you to be, what will he want you to
do?
Many
of us have been influenced by the culture of humanity, so we disdain the power
and influence of divinity hence, we live a life of fear, desperation and
emptiness.
We
chase and prioritise things that don't really satisfy. We fail to understand
that hard work alone is not the key to wealth, we see many hardworking yet
broke people around yet; we keep applying the formula of hard work thinking it
will work in our own case, oh, how absurd.
Why
is it so hard for us to see that it is divinity that actually gives man the
grace and ability to create wealth?
Real
clean wealth is a supernatural reward for functioning well at your duty post in
life. The almighty God is under an obligation to release wealth to you as long
as you're functioning at your place and serving mankind at your duty post in
accordance with his will and intention when he created you.
You
cannot choose your ways, choose your life, choose your ambition, do as you like
and demand the blessing of God over a task or job he did not design you for and
send you to come accomplish on earth.
Stress
is basically working at something and in a place God did not design you for. If
it is your place, you can never find it stressful.
Education,
qualifications, degree, profession, career and business are all good and very
important but all these will bring you frustration and emptiness and stress if
they all run outside of your purpose and design – that is God's dream, thinking
and craft when he created you.
Dear
friend, do you know what you're here to do? Are you doing what you're here to
do, or you're just struggling, hustling and working hard in life, trying to
secure existence and gather materials you will eventually let go at the end of
your time and sojourn here on earth?
All
the labour and hard work to gather and collect and amass is actually and
eventually for who? Nothing will follow you to the grave and nothing matters
after you're dead, except the work you did; your assignment to humanity whiles
you were here on earth according to Gods desire for you.
Do
you have any humanitarian accountability? Who is glad you're alive, who is
grateful you're a Nigerian, who feels safe because of you, who has hope because
you're alive, who is rejoicing because you exist, who is relieved because you
are functioning apart from your immediate family?
Is
your life all about getting grabbing, collecting, impressing and oppressing
everyone including strangers?
How
much was Mandela's bank balance when he died, how many cars did he have, how
many houses did he have? Did all that really mattered? How rich was martin
Luther king, Mahatma Ghandi, Mohammed Ali, Mother Theresa, Jesus Christ the
saviour and the Prophet Mohammed Peace be upon him. Your glory is in your
function not your collection, your wealth comes by reward not just hard work,
schemes, qualifications, even greed or covetousness.
Dear
friend, fear, uncertainty, anxiety, despair, frustration, stress and the
negative impact of our economy presently will not spare you as long as you
ignore your God, your divine source, your purpose, your place and your
assignment. If your supplies and provision is divinely delivered, you can't be
a victim of any economic downturn.
Self-rejection
and wanting to be like others or the decision to compete with others is the
number one cause of your fear and frustration and stress.
Divine
provision doesn't come by being just religious, you must be faithfully
observing your God ordained service to humanity in the place of your posting;
in your place in this world. Though they are both automobiles, a saloon car is
not a towing vehicle. They are created for different purposes. When you do your
best in your place to bless humanity, God will do the rest and you will enter
your rest. Hard as it seems, today's economy cannot hold down a man operating
in purpose.
If
you do your best at what you've been called and designed for, divinity will do
the rest.
As
a nation, we've cried enough and prayed so much it's time to seek your purpose
and let God do the rest.
Your
real career and business is most satisfying and rewarding within your God
ordained purpose.
