Employment as a matter of fact, is a business transaction where you sell your knowledge and ability to an organization for an agreed sum of money called salary; payable every month-end or as agreed.
The employer is the buyer, the employee is the seller, the salary is the price and the knowledge, skills and abilities is the product or better still, service in consideration. The industry is the market.
As an employee, the longer you are in your industry, the more valuable you can become. If you're a good ‘brand' your value will continue to appreciate and the demand for you will increase. More different employers, will come after you and try to purchase your skills - offering you higher compensation, salaries and perks.
But you see, like every other set up, the labour market is dynamic, ever changing, always vibrant. New skills, knowledge, abilities and capacities are required every season hence, the preferences and needs of employers continue to change.
The fact that you're valuable and in high demand today doesn't mean you'll remain valuable and relevant for long if you don't keep repackaging and upgrading yourself to remain relevant. If you choose to remain as you are you can become stale and irrelevant after a while.
My dear friend it's time to rebrand and upgrade your skills. Look well at your industry and your organization and put together a potent repositioning strategy.
Upgrade your skills and be the best at all you do. Keep commanding the highest price in the labor market and remain needed for a very long time. Your career is yours and your employer is the buyer, Please sell your skills well. My name is Muyiwa Afolabi, please enjoy your day
