Troops of the Nigerian army, on Friday killed seven militants in Bakassi Local Government Area of Cross River State, after a failed attack on its position by unrepentant militant group, the Bakassi Strike Force.


This was contained in a press statement issued by the Public Relations Officer (APRO) of the 13 brigade, Nigerian army, Calabar, Captain Kayode Owolabi.

According to the statement, the foiled operation was led by wanted leader of the militant group, Benjamin Ene, alias G1.


Several items including 250 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, rocket propelled gun launcher, GPMG belt links and various charms were recovered from members of the group, who were decked in Nigerian military  camouflage uniform, the statement added.

“Unrepentant militant group, the Bakassi Strike force, led by most wanted criminal, Benjamin Ene, alias G1, attacked army position in Efut Isigi, Cross River State, at about 0100hours. 
“The very determined troops of 13 brigade and Operation Delta Safe repelled the attack, killing 7 of the militants, some of them wearing Nigerian military camouflage. 
“Items recovered are 250 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, rocket propelled gun launcher, GPMG belt links and various charms were recovered, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds”, the statement read in part.
The Nigerian army, however, suffered no casualty in the latest attack, coming few days after a similar attack on its position that allegedly left 5 soldiers and two militants dead, it was gathered.


Meanwhile, the commander, of the 13 brigade, Brig. Gen Bulama Biu, has reiterated the Nigerian army’s commitment towards the safety of residents in the area, while thanking and urging them to sustain their support to the military in her fight against militancy.
